An estimate on published rules and assumed returns. Neither fund guarantees a rate; each states its own rules for paying out.
Both take रू 2,596 a month for 120 months — रू 3,11,520 in all. SSF invests रू 1,686 of it and spends रू 910 on cover; CIT invests all of it. At 60 the SSF old-age fund is रू 9,14,414 and the CIT fund रू 9,63,796. Spread over the same 160 months that is रू 5,715 against रू 6,024 a month.
The gap is mostly the cover, not the rate: with only SSF's old-age share, CIT reaches रू 6,25,812. So the question is whether रू 910 a month of accident, medical and family cover is worth रू 309 a month less pension — for a person abroad with dependants, usually yes. SSF's pension is for life; CIT's fund ends when it is spent.
- Set both rates to what each institution declared last year and look again — the answer moves with them.
- Open the SSF tool for the full picture of the cover: hospital limits, disability and family pensions.
- SSF foreign-employment scheme: 13.85 of 21.33 points to the old-age fund; pension = fund ÷ 160 for life from 60 (180 months paid).
- CIT Citizen Pension Scheme: the whole amount earns the rate you set (listed 4.5% on nlk.org.np, read 2026-09-23). Its own payout rules apply; "÷160" is used only to compare like with like.
- Deposits at month end, compounding monthly, both sides; between the last deposit and 60 both funds only grow.
- Both contributions qualify for the retirement-fund income-tax deduction (the lower of 1/3 of income or NPR 5,00,000), so tax does not separate them here.

A worked example
The form starts with these figures (in NPR) so you can see how it works before typing your own. They are made up — nobody's real numbers appear here.
Questions people ask
Why does CIT come out ahead on the fund?
Because SSF spends about a third of every rupee on cover, and CIT invests all of it. Compare CIT with only SSF's old-age share and the two are close — the difference is the cover you did or did not buy.
Can I have both?
Yes. Many people put the SSF minimum in for the cover and the pension, and save the rest in CIT or a bank.
Is CIT's payout also for life?
CIT pays according to its scheme rules; a fund runs down as it is drawn. SSF's pension is a lifetime one, which is worth more the longer you live.
Which rate should I assume?
Each institution's last declared rate. CIT lists its rates on nlk.org.np; SSF announces its return each year.
Do you keep what I type here?
No. The figures are used to work out the answer and are not stored, and never appear in the page address.

These WTS services relate to what you just worked out. Using the calculator does not sign you up for anything.
These are estimates. The figures depend entirely on the numbers you enter and on assumptions that are listed on every result. They are not financial advice, and a bank, employer or authority may use different rules. Check anything important with them before you decide.
We do not keep your figures. Salary, debt and savings you type here are used to work out the answer and are not stored, and never appear in the page address. The only thing remembered is your country and language choice (a small cookie), so the currency can be suggested next time — never a figure you typed. Anonymous counters record that a calculation happened, not what it was.
